Prospector 1 travelled from its construction yard in Dalian, China, to the Cromarty Firth. Its arrival at Invergordon in November 2013 marked an important transition from shipyard delivery toward North Sea service.
Energy Voice reported the approximately 5,000-mile journey and the preparation undertaken by the European operations team. The rig’s high-specification equipment was developed around improved working conditions and reduced exposure to high-risk areas.
The milestone illustrates the coordination needed between construction, marine transport, commissioning and offshore operations. Each phase brings a different team and a different set of acceptance criteria.
